Conservation

There are many dumbed-down sources about oil painting conservation, and on the other hand, there are many highly technical articles and books about the subject. As an outsider with scientific and artistic experience, I synthesized the information I gathered over the Masters in Liberal Studies, SUNY Empire program into a “liaison” type of website with straightforward but detailed explanations with links to plenty of resources for interested visitors to explore the topic further.

If painting conservation is totally new to you, I recommend browsing in the order below. This reading order begins with the ethics and reasons for conservation, and then it continues with some historical background. Finally, it takes you through some of the materials that conservators use to do their work.

If you are interested in art conservation but do not have conservation training, I hope you will find the information on this website to strike the right balance between technical information and principles of conservation - a detailed overview.

History

This website in its early days (circa 2006) was a Neopets fansite - hence the domain name. I taught myself how to code because I wanted to customize my Neopets profile, which as I grew older turned into a desire to make pretty websites and learn graphic design. Though heavily modified in 2018, I originally created this website layout in 2012 as a challenge to create a layout without images; thus all of the elements are pure code. Of course all of my artwork on here has to be in image format, but I am proud that the structure is HTML5, CSS, and a dash of php.
